📝 Course Description

M10B10241: Meteorology and Climatology bridges classical atmospheric physics with modern operational oceanography and marine biology. The course is designed to provide undergraduate Marine Science students with a rigorous, quantitative understanding of the Earth’s fluid envelope, focusing on the dynamic processes governing the atmosphere, the oceans, and their complex coupling mechanisms.

Students will examine the fundamental physical laws governing atmospheric motion, moisture thermodynamics, and radiation balance. The course transitions from local physical phenomena—such as micro-pressure gradients, surface friction, and boundary layer dynamics—to macroscale planetary circulations (including the Hadley, Ferrel, and Polar cells). Furthermore, this course equips students with practical knowledge of marine observation networks, satellite remote sensing, regional climate modes (such as monsoons, ENSO, and IOD), and state-of-the-art predictive modeling to assess the impacts of climate variability on marine ecosystems and potential fishing zones (PFZs).
